How to Calculate Zakat — Step by Step /

1Add your wealth

Add cash, bank balance, gold, silver, trade goods and investments.

2Value gold & silver

Multiply weight by today's market price per tola in your city.

3Deduct debts

Subtract loans and bills that are due to be paid.

4Check the Nisab

If the net amount reaches the Nisab and one lunar year (Hawl) has passed, Zakat is due.

5Pay 2.5%

Pay one-fortieth (2.5%) of the net amount to eligible recipients.

Example: You have Rs 600,000 cash, gold worth Rs 400,000 and a debt of Rs 100,000. Net wealth = Rs 900,000. This is above the silver Nisab, so Zakat = 900,000 × 2.5% = Rs 22,500.

The Nisab in rupees changes daily because gold and silver prices change daily. That is why this calculator asks you to enter today's per-tola rate first — your Nisab and result are then calculated from that live rate, not from an old fixed figure.

What Is Zakatable — and What Is Not?

✓ Zakat IS due on

Zakat on Gold, Silver, Cash, Salary & Business — Full Guide

Zakat on Gold

If you own 7.5 tola (87.48 g) gold or more for one lunar year, pay 2.5% of its current market value. In Pakistan, most families hold gold as jewellery — Hanafi scholars hold that Zakat is due on gold jewellery as well. Weigh it, multiply by today's per-tola rate, and add it above.

Zakat on Silver

The silver Nisab is 52.5 tola (612.36 g). Because silver is cheaper, its Nisab in rupees is much lower — which is why cash holders are usually judged against the silver Nisab.

Zakat on Cash & Salary

There is no separate Zakat on monthly salary. What matters is the savings you still hold on your Zakat date (usually 1st Ramadan or the date you first reached Nisab). If your saved cash, added to gold/silver/business assets, reaches the Nisab, pay 2.5% of the total net amount.

Zakat on Business & Shops

Count all stock at its current sale price, plus business cash and receivables, minus business debts due. Pay 2.5% of the net. Shop fittings, shelves and delivery vehicles used in the business are not stock.

Who Can Receive Zakat? The 8 Categories (Qur'an 9:60)

1. Al-Fuqara — the poor
2. Al-Masakin — the needy
3. Zakat workers — those who collect & distribute it
4. Muallafat al-Qulub — those whose hearts are reconciled
5. Ar-Riqab — freeing those in bondage
6. Al-Gharimin — those in debt
7. Fi Sabilillah — in the cause of Allah
8. Ibn as-Sabil — the stranded traveller

Zakat cannot be given to your parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren or spouse — you are already responsible for them. It can be given to poor siblings, relatives, neighbours and students who qualify.

How to Calculate Zakat in 2026?2026 میں زکاۃ کا حساب کیسے لگائیں؟

The method does not change by year — only gold and silver prices change, so your Nisab in rupees changes with them. For 2026: (1) add up all your zakatable wealth — cash, bank balance, gold, silver, trade goods and investments; (2) value gold and silver at today's market price, not the price you bought them at; (3) subtract debts that are due; (4) compare the net amount with the Nisab — 7.5 tola gold (87.48 g) or 52.5 tola silver (612.36 g); (5) if the net amount reaches the Nisab and one full lunar year (Hawl) has passed over it, pay 2.5% of the net amount. At this calculator's default rates (gold Rs 410,000 per tola, silver Rs 4,800 per tola), the silver Nisab is 52.5 × 4,800 = Rs 252,000. Enter today's rates at the top of this page and the calculator does every step for you.

How Much Zakat on 1 Lakh PKR?1

The simple maths: 2.5% of Rs 100,000 (1 lakh) is Rs 2,500. But please read the condition first — Zakat is only due when your total zakatable wealth reaches the Nisab and stays for one lunar year. At the default silver rate on this page, the Nisab is Rs 252,000, so 1 lakh alone is below the Nisab and Zakat is NOT due on 1 lakh alone. The Rs 2,500 figure applies only when 1 lakh is part of a larger total that reaches the Nisab — for example, if your total net wealth is Rs 300,000, Zakat is 2.5% of the full Rs 300,000 = Rs 7,500, not just on the amount above Nisab.

How Much Zakat on 1 Tola Gold?1

At this calculator's default gold rate of Rs 410,000 per tola, 1 tola of gold is worth Rs 410,000, and 2.5% of that is Rs 10,250. Two Nisab points matter here: the gold Nisab is 7.5 tola — gold alone below 7.5 tola does not reach the gold Nisab — while the silver Nisab is 52.5 tola (Rs 252,000 at the default silver rate). If you hold 1 tola gold together with cash or other assets, the values are combined and judged together against the Nisab, which is why most scholars in Pakistan check cash holders against the silver Nisab. If your combined net wealth reaches the Nisab and a lunar year has passed, Zakat is 2.5% of the combined total — and the 1 tola gold portion contributes Rs 10,250 of it at the default rate. Always re-check with today's per-tola rate in the calculator above, because the rupee answer changes when the gold price changes.

Frequently Asked Questions — Zakat FAQ

What is the Nisab for Zakat in Pakistan in 2026?

Nisab is 7.5 tola gold (87.48 g) or 52.5 tola silver (612.36 g). In rupees it equals 52.5 × today's silver price per tola. Enter today's rate at the top of this page and the calculator shows your exact Nisab instantly.

How much Zakat on 1 lakh (Rs 100,000)?

If Rs 100,000 is your total net wealth and it reaches the Nisab on your Zakat date, Zakat is 2.5% = Rs 2,500. If your total wealth is below the Nisab, no Zakat is due.

How much Zakat on 10 tola gold?

Multiply 10 tola by today's gold price per tola, then take 2.5%. For example, at Rs 410,000 per tola: 10 × 410,000 = Rs 4,100,000, and Zakat = Rs 102,500.

How much Zakat on 1 tola gold?

At the default rate of Rs 410,000 per tola, 1 tola gold is worth Rs 410,000 and 2.5% of it is Rs 10,250. Note the gold Nisab is 7.5 tola, so gold alone below that does not reach the gold Nisab — but if you also hold cash or other assets, everything is combined and checked against the Nisab (silver Nisab: 52.5 tola, Rs 252,000 at default rates). See the full guide section above.

How to calculate Zakat in 2026?

Add all zakatable wealth (cash, gold, silver, trade goods, investments) at today's prices, subtract debts due, and if the net reaches the Nisab (7.5 tola gold or 52.5 tola silver — Rs 252,000 at default silver rates) and a lunar year has passed, pay 2.5% of the net. The calculator at the top of this page does each step automatically.

I reached Nisab but the year has not passed. Do I pay?

Zakat becomes obligatory after one full lunar year (Hawl) of owning Nisab-level wealth. Many Muslims fix 1st Ramadan as their yearly Zakat date for ease.

Can I pay Zakat in advance or in instalments?

Yes — paying in advance is permitted by many scholars, and paying ahead of your due date in monthly parts is commonly accepted as long as the full amount is intended as Zakat. Confirm with a scholar you trust.

Do I pay Zakat on my provident fund / pension?

Money you fully own and can access is generally counted. Funds locked and not in your possession until retirement are treated differently across schools of thought — please ask a qualified scholar for your specific fund.

What if I have wealth but also a large loan?

Deduct debts that are due. If, after deduction, your net wealth falls below the Nisab, Zakat is not due. Long-term loans are usually deducted only for the portion due in the current year — scholars differ, so verify your case.

Is this calculator according to Hanafi fiqh?

The default setup — silver Nisab for cash and 2.5% on gold jewellery — follows the Hanafi position common in Pakistan. If you follow another school, adjust the Nisab standard above and consult your scholar for details that differ.

Rate of Zakat — 2.5% (one-fortieth): Zakat on cash, gold, silver and trade goods is one-fortieth, i.e. 2.5%, as written in Sahih Bukhari, Book 24 (Obligatory Charity Tax / Zakat), Hadith 534: “For silver the Zakat is one-fortieth of the lot (i.e. 2.5%).”

Nisab of silver: The nisab hadith recorded in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, on the authority of Abu Saeed al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه), states that there is no Zakat on silver less than five awaq — and five awaq equal 200 dirhams.
